The Raleigh Pipes Proyect is the result of a dream that we had with Diego since we met at the Club de Pipafumadores del Uruguay (Uruguayan Pipesmokers' Club). As the reunions of the club passed by, we forged a true friendship between us, and we also realized that we shared the dream of fabricating good quality pipes totally hand made, with the idea that those pipes could guarantee a pleasant smoking and good looking aesthetics.

Years passed by until we could make our own workshop and start to work, finally in May 2008 we decided to make this big step and do it. In the first place we bought the basic tools to get started: a bench drill, a bench grinder and other hand tools such as sandpapers, files and other tools.

After obtaining the necessary tools that we needed to work, we decided to rent a small basement in Goes neighbourhood in Montevideo, and we built the workshop. Then came the process of finding a supplier of good quality brier, which we found in Spain, so we made our first request of 33 briar roots blanks. Once we accomplished that step came the stance to get acrylic to do the stems, and also getting a lathe operator that could make the flue of the stems, since we don't have a lathe in our workshop.

Now we continue to work to provide you with a good quality pipe, 100% hand made.

Things to Love About Uruguay: Raleigh Pipes

Uruguay has a lot going for it, though it may be far from perfect. There's always room for improvement, and now Uruguay has improved recently in a way that I hadn't really expected: Uruguay now produces some top quality high-end pipes.

The pipes in question are called Raleigh Pipes, and they're made by a couple of master artisans and good friends of mine, Miguel and Diego.
